Open call for third BAUMI AWARD

15.09.2017
Open call for third BAUMI AWARD

This Friday sees the launch of the open call for the 3rd Baumi Script Development Award for the development of outstanding cinematic stories. As from today, German and international writers can submit applications for the € 20,000 grant — online only — until 15. October 2017 to: www.baumi-award.com

We are so excited to have renowned actress MARTINA GEDECK serving as the guest juror this year! She is one of the most distinguished actresses of Germany, known to a wide audience for her performance in „Bella Martha“ , produced by Karl “Baumi” Baumgartner with Pandora Film and for which she won the German Film Award.

„Whenever you were together with Baumi, you would have the feeling that there wasn't anything nicer and more worthwhile than making films. This inner pleasure in his profession - which was a vocation for him - left a deep impression on me", says Martina Gedeck.

NOCTURAMA release in Germany on 18 May 17

Next week, on 18. May 2017, NOCTURAMA by Bertrand Bonello starts in German cinemas.

NOCTURAMA is a contemporary radical portrait of French youth ridden by angst and anger, something recalls with the current Nuit Debout (Up All Night) protest movement in Paris.

A Film that makes an intriguingly cinematic case for showing over telling.

Wed, 10. May 17 – 20:00H – Cinema Paris, Berlin
Thu, 11. May 17 – 20:00H – Off Broadway, Köln

Second Baumi Award goes to the Polish filmmaker Kuba Czekaj

14.02.2017
Second Baumi Award goes to the Polish filmmaker Kuba Czekaj

The Baumi Script Development Award, endowed with 20,000 Euros, was presented for the second time on the fringes of  the Berlinale. This year, the grant in memory of the producer Karl ¨Baumi¨ Baumgartner goes to the Polish writer and director Kuba Czekaj for his treatment ¨SORRY POLAND¨.

¨ I like the style, he seems to be a clever guy,¨ says guest juror Aki Kaurismäki. ¨Poland is a film nation where Baumi began supporting young talents very early on and worked closely with many film artists. Kuba Czekaj and his story idea, which has a nicely subtle and fine political touch, would be exactly to his liking.¨

Visit www.baumi-award.com for the full jury statement/ about the treatment/ about the prize-winner: pressrelease

The founders would like to thank: Friederike Zeit for the design and making of the prize sculpture, Katja Clos for the graphics and award logo and Fritz Erler for the programming of the Website.

That’s followed in October by the gala presentation at the 60. BFI London Film Festival. This year’s Debate Gala is Bertrand Bonello’s cool, stylized thriller NOCTURAMA, an audacious film that tackles the subjects of terrorism, violence, consumerism and the decay of European idealism head-on.”

MARIJA world premiere in Locarno – International Competition

MARIJA by Michael Koch will have its world premiere in International Competition in Locarno and is a contender for the Golden Leopard this year. LUNA PAPA director Bakhtiar Khudojnazarov passed away

Tajik-born director Bakhtiar Khudojnazarov has died today in Berlin. He was only 49 years old.

In 1991 Pandora Film producer Karl “Baumi” Baumgartner and Bakthiar meet at Mannheim-Heidelberg Festival during the premiere of his first film BRATAN. This leads Baumi to support his next film KOSH BA KOSH, which won the Silver Lion for Best Director at Venice Film Festival 1993.

The film shooting in Tajikistan took more than five years in making but was successfully finished against all odds. The film premiere in Venice Competition in 1999 was succeed by many international festival participations e.g. Toronto, Tokyo, Sundance and winning prizes including the Best director award in Tokyo, Russia’s national Nika Awards. LUNA PAPA was also the first official Oscar entry of Tajikistan.

You haven't looked at me that way in years, You dreamed me up and left me here, How long was I dreaming for, What was it you wanted me for, You haven't looked at me that way in years, Your watch has stopped and the pond is clear, Someone turn the lights back off, I'll love you til all time is gone, You haven't looked at me that way in years, But I'm still here

IM ALTER VON ELLEN gains Crossing Europe Award in Linz and Best Actress Award in Buenos Aires

After 2007 for DIE UNERZOGENEN (The Unpolished), for the second time director Pia Marais wins the Crossing Europe Award for Best Film in Linz. The prize was given ex aequo to Spanish Film Cararemada to acknowledge appreciation for the diversity of cinematic approaches. The CROSSING EUROPE Film Festival Linz has devoted its program each year in April to idiosyncratic, contemporary and socio-political auteur cinema from Europe, in Competition are first or second European feature films. From the Jury statement: The study of a character in crisis – and who is constantly adrift – that does not stick to the conventions of narrative filmmaking, and is magnificently served by a mesmerizing lead performance by Jeanne Balibar.

And at the same weekend we congratulate heartily Jeanne Balibar for winning BEST ACTRESS AWARD at prominent BAFICI Festival in Buenos Aires, where IM ALTER VON ELLEN (At Ellen’ Age) was screened in competition.

CONGRATUALTION - IM ALTER VON ELLEN wins BEST FILM in Frankfurt! The Jury says:"....„At Ellen’s Age“ belongs to the rare sort of films, which gain within an evening-long narration, what is normally only from graphic art expected: to penetrate reality consequently .from the first until the last scene and to show the contradiction within. This is also owed to the camera work of Hélène Louvart and the modest minimal music of Horst Markgraf and Yoyo Röhm."
